Role
We are seeking a skilled Engineer with a focus on energy management to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and optimizing existing building systems to enhance performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in developing the energy program by identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing energy conservation measures to maximize the functionality of diverse building systems. Key responsibilities:
1. Developing capital energy projects to a conceptual level. This includes calculating estimated savings, life-cycle cost analysis and identifying various funding mechanisms
2. Identifying energy conservation opportunities with an emphasis on low-cost/no-cost opportunities
3. Monitoring and analyzing energy data including consumption in all forms (electricity, natural gas, etc.)
4. Performing utility rate analysis and energy accounting
5. Performing technical design reviews of energy related projects, such as solar installation, HVAC upgrades, and lighting retrofits
6. Preparing and providing briefings to leadership on any of the above activities
This role requires strong technical knowledge in energy systems, such as HVAC and lighting, and an understanding of building systems. Skills in data analysis, communication, and the ability to translate technical information into actionable recommendations are also crucial. Moreover, staying updated with advancements in energy-efficient technologies and regulations is essential to provide the most effective solutions.
Required Certifications
Be certified as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) through AEE or complete certification within one year of hiring.
Shall be U. S. citizens and shall be able to pass a National Agency Check or SF-85P (NACI).
Required Education and Experience
Possess at least one of the following combinations of educational and related experience requirements:
1. A four-year engineering degree (or building science related degree) with a minimum of 5 years of experience working with building systems or energy.
2. A two-year technical degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience working with building systems or energy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrate evidence of the following abilities:
1. Communication/Public Speaking: Ability to communicate with different audiences with varying degrees of technical experience through speaking and writing
2. Energy Assessment: Ability to analyze complex building systems, energy usage patterns, and identify areas for improvement.
3. Identifying Inefficiencies: In-depth knowledge of energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy sources, and best practices for energy conservation across various sectors. Developing strategies and proposing solutions to improve energy efficiency.
4. Data Analysis: Gathering and analyzing data related to energy consumption, including trends and patterns in usage. This analysis helps in understanding where improvements can be made to reduce energy consumption and costs.
5. Report and Documentation: Compiling detailed reports outlining findings, recommendations, and potential cost savings. These reports are often presented to clients or stakeholders to propose and justify energy-saving measures.
6. Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all recommended solutions comply with relevant energy codes, regulations, and industry standards.
7. Microsoft-Suite Proficiency: Ability to work with Microsoft Programs such as Word, Excel, Access, Microsoft Project, and Power Point.
8. Prepare and present formal multimedia presentations.
9. Self-motivated.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
1. Possession of one or more of the following certifications will be advantageous:
a. Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
b. Other relevant industry certifications such as: LEEP certified, Renewable Energy Professional (REP), etc.
2. Experience in one or more of the following areas will be advantageous:
a. Practical hands-on experience working within the Department of Defense.
b. Experience conducting energy audits.
c. Experience with UESCs and ESPCs
d. Experience with the ERCIP program
e. Experience with renewable energy and/or microgrids
f. Experience performing life-cycle cost analyses.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
