The 1st Class Shipfitter will play a crucial role in the construction of maritime vessels. The 1st Class Shipfitter will use a variety of tools, equipment, and materials to assemble the various components of a ship into one cohesive unit. This position will work to directly contribute to the integrity, safety, and functionality of our marine vessels.
The schedule for this role has 6 hours of built in overtime. Additional overtime is typically available for those interested.
Monday-Thursday 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM and Friday 6:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
Successful candidates will pass a test that demonstrates their ability to read a drawing, and fit up/tack weld based upon the drawing.

Key Responsibilities:
- Reading Blueprints: Interpret and understand technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the layout and configuration of structural components.
- Material Preparation: Prepare materials such as steel plates, beams, and pipes by cutting, shaping, and aligning them according to project requirements.
- Fitting and Assembly: Fit, align, and assemble prefabricated parts and structural components accurately according to blueprints and specifications.
- Measurement and Alignment: Use precision measuring instruments such as tape measures, levels, and squares to ensure proper alignment and placement of components.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, including welders, pipefitters, and supervisors, to coordinate tasks and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Shipfitter in shipbuilding or maritime construction (3 years of prior experience preferred).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Capable of handling a physical workload and working in various positions.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Additional technical training or certification in welding, fabrication, or shipbuilding preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in confined spaces as required in a shipbuilding environment.
- Physical agility and dexterity to perform tasks such as bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments, including indoor and outdoor settings.
